BASE: Reception & Communal Space
Base is one of the newest acquisitions to MSP’s site in Greenheys Lane and was originally a residential building (student accommodation) set over 3 floors.
Amspec were appointed by MSP to undertake the refurbishment of the key areas within the building as well as some hard landscaping to the main entrance.
The building has no manned reception desk, rather a central space which can be used for visitors, or indeed is large enough to hold meetings for 10-12 people.
The designers, Shelia Bird Group, decided to expose the brickwork within the central staircase and highlight it further with a coat of vibrant orange. The Colour scheme internally is also repeated on the outer skin of the building, with bespoke perforated metal panels in varying sizes.
Amspec’s specialist joinery workshop came into its own for this project, producing a bespoke beautifully detailed slatted timber screen within the entrance area.
In addition to these works the first floor space was transformed into new offices for MSP, retaining the character of the previous divisions imposed by the student flats.
MSP’s unique office environment was delivered by Ampsec in a very tight window due to requirements set by new tenants’ moving into the park.
