Timeline

Creating history since 2002.

Amspec was conceived out of a desire to offer a transparent approach to design and build services. During the design phase and development of this website we want to publish here a detailed biography of our journey so far. This has proved very difficult to do. Our memories are of more recent successes and the reality is we are looking forwards.

The company has grown considerably over the last seventeen years, embracing the best in modern design and construction techniques and maintaining a solid, dependable delivery structure.

The company has grown its workforce and continues to be the best in the business, making a positive contribution to all projects.

2019

The big move.

Early February we move into our co-working style office space. Showcase our in-house design and manufacturing skills.

2018

Our biggest business relationship goes through some significant changes.

Bruntwood SciTech emerges to focus on the Science and Technology sector across a range of campuses. It’s an exciting evolution which we hope to be involved with.

Our expansion plans turn into reality with the purchase of a much larger workshop and production building. Significant investment in new machinery sees our ability to manufacture most items of joinery related product in house.

Members of the management team begin a programme of personal and professional development . A skilled mentor regularly asks the right questions to make us think about what type of company we want to be.

Our estimating team changes shape and we invest in young keen and committed individuals mentored by experienced Estimating Director Mark Shuttleworth.

We increase our design capability with the addition of qualified Architectural Technician - Chris Roberts adding to our already skillful design team.

The Bonded Warehouse in the  St John’s district of Manchester has stood there since the late 1860s. Formerly known as Granada Studios it has seen this part of Manchester evolve into a vibrant and creative place to live and work.  We carried out a sympathetic but substantial refurbishment of The Bonded Warehouse for Allied London under the direction of OBI Property. A significant project.

Early in the year we promote Mike Wignall and Ian Poole. As Construction and Operations Directors respectively . These are key appointments that have already begun to improve and refine our project delivery. The bar is raised.

2017

Big changes afoot.

Co working comes to the fore. Individuals and companies working in a highly sociable way. Work-life barriers blurred. The ability to make socially vibrant working environments aided by place-makers.

Investor in People becomes the focus of our people strategy. We learn to re-define what ‘good’ looks like. We explore how to attract and retain the best people. Reward and recognition strategies are implemented. Employee of the month comes a part of our ethos.

The Hub was its working title, but the newly renamed Bright Building evolves into a significant project during the summer of 2017.  Follow on fit-out projects for MSP, Friska, Cisco Mi-Idea and North West EHealth occupying most of the building within weeks of completion.

2016

Brexit begins.

Orleans House; a 109 year old grade 2* listed office building is converted from tired office space to 71 high quality city centre apartments. The project was conceived by building owner; Bruntwood to ensure this iconic structure had a future as a desirable residential building.

We work closely with Bruntwood and Delph Property Group over a twelve month period. The project is deemed a huge success and we take benefit from the experience.

2002

This is where it all began.

In February 2002, Andrew Maxwell registered Amspec Ltd, located in Unit 9 Hope Enterprise Centre, Wigan.

2002 - 2016

Over the last 17 or so years, our estimators have quoted some 4000 projects and we have gone on to complete over 1600 projects.

Our turnover has grown and contracted to reflect the trials and tribulations of the economy with our single figure profit levels reflecting how competitive the UK construction industry continues to be.

Like all companies we seek to raise our profit levels and have firstly look inwards to ensure we are a lean and efficient organization.  Our recently upgrade manufacturing facility should enable this company to grow profit levels without charging more for our goods and services which can only be good for existing and future customers.

We are hugely customer focused to the point of distraction and set ourselves standards that are sometimes difficult to achieve, but it will not stop us trying.

Our people remain our focus and there well being in and out of work is intrinsically linked with our business goals.  We are nothing without a happy and productive workforce.
