Perspective: Amspec begin work on King's House Redevelopment

Amspec begin work on King's House Redevelopment

Amspec have been appointed as the main contractor for the refurbishment and fit-out of Historic Kings House in Manchester City Centre. The iconic five-storey building, home to San Carlo restaurant, sits in the heart of the St Mary’s Parsonage area.

Preserving the building's history

The core emphasis is on sustainability and enhancing the building’s period features, incorporating rustic woods, luxury metals, and patterned finishes. These elements are complemented by Amspec's bespoke joinery, carefully selected biophilia, and dusky, elegant colours to create a rich, quirky and timeless design.

Drawing inspiration from classic British heritage, King’s House will be reimagined to reflect Manchester’s rich history.

Sustainability

Sustainability has been a key focus throughout, providing an opportunity to enhance the building’s eco-friendly features while ensuring alignment with Bruntwood SciTech’s embodied carbon targets. This includes the installation of new double-glazed windows, a modernised roof, improved wall insulation, LED lighting and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery systems. The building is targeting an EPC A rating upon completion, a significant achievement for a property of this age.
