Exploring Interior Design: Lilly's Week at Amspec

Last week, we were joined by Lilly, a year 10 student with a passion for art and a keen interest in interior design. Lilly wanted an insight into the industry and to get hands-on experience in a professional setting.

Lilly did thorough research online, specifically looking for design firms in the local area that offered opportunities for students like her. Amspec's focus on commercial interior design caught her attention, aligning perfectly with her interests and aspirations.

During her time at Amspec, Lilly had the opportunity to learn and practice using various design software, including SketchUp and CAD. Under the guidance of out design team, she honed her skills in digital design, gaining valuable knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit her future pursuits in interior design.  Lilly also had the opportunity to design her own wooden sign for her room using Maestro, a software tool utilised by Amspec. This design was then loaded onto the company's new CNC machine and manufactured to her exact specifications, providing her with a hands-on experience in the entire design-to-production process.

One of the highlights of Lilly's experience was working on real projects alongside the Amspec team. From creating mood boards to assisting with design briefs, she got a firsthand look at the collaborative process involved in bringing design concepts to life. Lilly had the chance to contribute to a project by designing a mood board for Amspec HQ’s reception area—an experience that allowed her to apply her creativity and skills in a practical setting.

Throughout her week at Amspec, Lilly also had the opportunity to work closely with the design team. They provided guidance and support, entrusting Lilly with tasks such as selecting samples and assisting with design presentations. This hands-on experience gave Lilly a deeper understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of a designer in a professional setting.

Reflecting on her time at Amspec, Lilly feels inspired and motivated to pursue her passion for interior design. The skills she acquired, combined with the invaluable insights gained from working with the design team, have solidified her decision to pursue a career in this exciting industry! Good luck Lilly and we hope to hear from you in the near future!
