Project: Alderley Park Breakout Area

Alderley Park Breakout Area

Alderley Park is a world-leading life science innovation campus. Based in Cheshire, it has the biggest and best invested life science R&D facilities in the UK, offering laboratory and state-of-the-art office space to rent. We have completed various projects at Alderley Park including the fit out of the Mereside Campus and the Marketing Suite.

Most recently, Amspec were chosen on behalf of Bruntwood to design and refurbish the breakout areas in Block 30.

The brief from the client was to design breakout spaces within various locations in Block 30. The spaces were to be an alternative to the office setting where informal & quiet meetings take place. The client wanted to use pops of colour and comfortable furniture to create a bright, airy and welcoming space to encourage people to use the space for collaborative work and leisure.

As the brief developed, we were also asked to design various bespoke joinery items that would be manufactured inhouse.

Bruntwood are committed to building a sustainable future and always look to drive strategies which improve the green credentials in each of their developments. We were asked to create a design for a recycling station with improved efficiency. We created a model that included a full height door and castors meaning bins can be wheeled in an out of the station. This reduces the manual handling risk for the cleaning team and also makes maintenance quicker and more efficient.

The station was installed onto a matte black, stained slatted wall, to mirror the features in the other communal areas in Alderley Park.

Biophillia

We installed a replica green wall to conceal access panels and services. The green wall was made using Sedum mats with added Ferns, Palm, Scindapsus and other foliage. It was supplied and installed by I Want Plants.

Furniture was supplied by Sixteen3, Frovi & Orangebox and flooring from Interface and Shaw Contract. 5 curved seats from Sixteen3 were used to make a circular focal seating area in the centre of the room with an artificial Ficus tree at the centre

AV Screen

Another design focus included a new AV digital screen setting and atrium installation design. CGI/Actual Image is below.

We were also asked by Bruntwood to design and install an indoor ‘garden area’. Click the link to find out more!
