Project: Sofology HQ

Sofology HQ

Sofology is a specialist sofa retailer operating from 37 stores across the UK and through a leading web platform. They are a subsidiary of the DFS Furniture Group, founded by the Tyldesley family in 1974.

We were approached by Sofology’s procurement team and asked to renovate their Head Offices in Golbourne. The brief was to provide a brighter, more homely environment for their employees, as well as creating collaborative workspaces and breakout areas to display Sofology’s own furniture.

The team at Amspec designed a striking reception scheme to wow visitors on arrival. We began by spraying the existing suspended ceiling from black to white, to achieve a brighter and more inviting space. We used decorative lighting and a gradient slatted wall to make a feature of the open-air atrium and create display space to showcase Sofology’s latest products.

Integrating plants into the scheme was a priority for the Sofology team. They wanted to introduce biophilic elements, not only for aesthetic purposes but also to improve office air quality and contribute to the improved wellbeing of their employees. This highlights Sofology’s sustainability values and aim towards becoming an eco-friendly company.

To act as a focal point in reception, we designed and manufactured a bespoke, DDA-compliant reception desk made from Microcement. A monochromatic design was used for the desk and the majority of the reception which will allow the scheme to continually evolve with the companies updated furnishings and latest products.

We also refurbished the office space, W.C’s and built in extra teapoints. Sofology were concerned that their office space was too long and narrow which gave it a ‘corridor-like’ feel. We broke up this vast space with patches of feature carpet, which not only created space for breakout areas, it was also another opportunity to display Sofology’s ‘on trend’ furniture. Each office had a different ‘hero’ colour to give each department their own identity. We manufactured bespoke cloak storage to match each of the offices. Teapoints were kept the same in each office to give a sense of continuity throughout the scheme.

Overall, Sofology were impressed with the finished scheme which was completed on time and within budget. Amspec went above and beyond to create a homely and inviting workspace, to welcome the staff back into the office after a year of home-working.
